Are you feeling LIBERATED in Midlife?

When I chat with women in midlife, one topic constantly pops up: a sense of awakening or liberation. Like a flower finally blooming, they find it effortless and exhilarating to embrace their unique selves. It’s as if years of dormancy have given way to vibrant self-expression. I’ve come up with a check list of sorts to help you enrich your own liberation journey….Here are some ways we can enrich our lives and embrace our newfound journey.

1. Rediscover passions and interests

  • Pick up a forgotten hobby: Did you love painting, playing music, or writing as a child? Now’s the perfect time to revisit those passions and rediscover the joy they bring.
  • Explore something entirely new: Always wanted to learn a language, try pottery, or take a dance class? Midlife is a great time to step outside your comfort zone and explore new interests. Get it on your schedule today!

2. Invest in personal growth

  • Take a class or workshop: There are endless options available, from creative writing to financial planning to mindfulness practices. Many places offer On-Line options to the options are limitless!
  • Travel solo or with like-minded friends: Traveling opens your mind to new cultures, perspectives, and experiences. There are many travel agencies that offer “singles” trips with the pure intention of meeting new like-minded friends who enjoy traveling.
  • Pursue a career change: If your current job doesn’t spark joy, explore opportunities that align with your skills and passions. Many universities offer online master’s programs, certificate courses and much more, check out Rice, Stanford and Pepperdine to name a few.

3. Strengthen social connections

  • Reconnect with old friends: Revive those lost connections and reminisce about good times. Facebook is a great place to set up an event page and get connected for free.
  • Join a club or group: Find a local book club, hiking group, or volunteer organization to connect with people who share your interests. Your local library, book store and even gym (Lifetime) has many social club opportunities.
  • Nurture meaningful relationships: Strengthen your bonds with loved ones by prioritizing quality time and open communication. Plan a reunion or even a potluck in a fun or familiar place, have everyone bring their favorite dish or a dish they remember as a child.

4. Prioritize self-care

  • Focus on physical and mental well-being: Develop a healthy exercise routine, eat nutritious foods, and get enough sleep. Consider practices like meditation or yoga to manage stress. This can’t be stressed enough as your wealth is your health, so make deposits daily.
  • Embrace a positive body image: Learn to appreciate your body for its strength and resilience. We are no longer in the skinny phase, thank GOD that’s gone. Being strong, eating proteins nurturing our bodies is the new medicine 3.0!
  • Set boundaries and say no: Don’t be afraid to prioritize your own needs and well-being. Again back to the liberation part, it is perfectly okay to say no and also okay to take a chance and say YES! You decide and then move on it!

These are just a few ideas, and the most important thing is to find what resonates with you. By embracing your individuality and exploring new possibilities, we can create a truly enriching and fulfilling chapter in their lives.
